October Brain Breaks!

Hey there!

It's Abby from Third Grade Bookworm and I have a fun collection of brain breaks I'd love to share with you!

http://www.symbaloo.com/mix/octoberbrainbreaks

I keep a set of brain breaks ready to go through my Symbaloo account. One of our leadership jobs is Class DJ - a highly coveted position! :) The Class DJ gets to pick out the dance videos we use for brain breaks and indoor recess. (See? Now you want to be the Class DJ, don't you?!) By using Symbaloo to keep them all in one spot, I'm not hunting down a video on You Tube every time we take a break. I can also control what the kids have access to this way!

Click on the picture above to view this board in Symbaloo and you should be able to add it to your boards OR you can start your own Symbaloo account!

As always, watch the videos yourself to make sure they are appropriate for your own kiddos. The videos on top are Just Dance clips (my students' favorites!) and the clips on the bottom are better sing-a-long videos.

I hope you enjoy!

A *Berry* Sweet Back to School Freebie!

Hey there!

I hope everyone enjoyed the Back to School Sale at TPT this week. I know I filled up my shopping cart more than once! :)

My school recently held our annual "Meet and Greet" event before we welcomed the kids back on Monday, and I took an idea I used last year and turned it into a fabulous new freebie for you!

After I'd spent a gazillion dollars setting up my classroom, it was hard for me to justify spending more money on back-to-school goodies to Mr. Bookworm. :) We were in the grocery store and the idea for this cutie-patootie treat hit me.

For less than $10, I had a welcome back treat for 40+ kids. (I teach in an elementary school that departmentalizes 1st-5th grade.) Brilliant, right?! :) I was happy, the kids were excited, and Mr. Bookworm was elated that I had not spent every last cent we had on my classroom.

In my new position, I don't have a classroom but I do have the opportunity on a daily basis to make life easier for teachers in my building. So when I tweaked this template, that's what I had in mind. I've recreated the template (4 tags per page) for any classroom, K-6th grade. I also included a welcome back tag for classrooms that may have children from multiple grade levels. The tags repeat for departmentalized and self-contained classrooms.

If there's a classroom description or grade level I'm missing that you'd like to see, please let me know! I'm more than happy to add it!

To grab your copy, click on the picture below! Enjoy your last few days of summer (if you're still on vacation) and I hope this makes your back-to-school chaos a little less hectic!

The 7 Habits, Behavior Management, and Data {with a FREEBIE!}

I am lucky enough to teach at a school that has become a part of the Leader in Me family. We are getting ready to enter our 3rd official year as a Leadership School, and I cannot wait to see the impact this program will have (again) on our students and staff.

When we made the transition and began to incorporate the 7 Habits into our daily routine, I knew it would have an impact on my classroom management strategy. You can read about that decision here.

http://thirdgradebookworm.blogspot.com/p/7-habits-of-happy-kids.html

When we entered this year I found myself with a rather (ahem) challenging group of kiddos. They kept me on my toes and taught me a LOT about patience, love, and perseverance. I also got to know a lot of parents very well, very quickly. :) One of the tools I used when I was talking with parents was this editable clip chart data form.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/109427387/7%20Habits%20Freebies/Classroom%20Clip%20Chart%20Data%20EDITABLE.pdf

I filled in the dates for each month across the bottom of the page. At the end of the day, my clip chart coordinator would shade in the box beside each kiddo's name. The clip chart coordinator brought it to me to check after they were finished. This let me keep track of how everyone ended their day.  It also became a great conferencing tool when I sat down with parents and kiddos alike. The kids kept track of their personal behavior on a calendar that went home each day.

When we needed to, I sat down with kids one-on-one at the end of the month and helped them set goals for the following month. We checked in with each other once a week (in the mornings, before school started) to see how they were doing in making progress to meet their goal.

You can grab either of these freebies by clicking on the pictures above or by visiting the 7 Habits page on my blog!

Enjoy!

Hey Y'all! It's a New Face - and a Freebie!

Hello Class*y Peeps!

I'm so excited to be a part of this phenomenal group of bloggers! I'm pretty sure the ideas I've found here have saved my teaching tail at least twice  three times who knows. A LOT.  :)

I'm Abby from Third Grade Bookworm, and I live in Georgia with my sweet husband (Mr. Bookworm) and our 4 fur babies.

Mr. Bookworm and I on a hot date. He's a keeper. ;-)
We have a real LIVE baby on the way in September and I am spending a LOT of time this summer getting ready for his arrival.

I just finished my 12th year of teaching, and I'm coming out of the classroom to work as an EIP teacher (Early Intervention Program) at my current school. I'll go in to classrooms and pull small groups of kids that teachers have identified as "at risk" for falling behind in math or reading. It's going to be really different, but I'm super excited to give it a try!

To celebrate joining the crew here, I have a brand new common and proper noun freebie pack! It will be perfect for back-to-school and fall when we head back. (Gulp.)
