Timeline In Class

Hey everyone!

I might be posting this later than usual, but I'm posting!

I have a timeline in my class that is super simple and basic!

The only things I am using is a sentence strip (cut up), a sharpie to write the month, and then a paper from a kid for whatever subject(s) I want to "remember".

Super simple and easy! And my kids love referring back to what we studied in each month.

A few more pictures are up over on my blog if you want to see more!

Crystal Making

Hey everyone!

My class is finishing up their rocks and minerals unit for science and even though we follow a scripted curriculum for this unit, I had a few days that I could play around with.

I decided to surprise my class by letting them make crystals.

We made two kinds, one in a jar and one on a plate.

The recipes are over on my blog. Your kids will have fun making these crystals too!

You're Giving Me A Headache!

Hey everyone!

So in one of the last posts, I had accepted a long term position. That's no longer the case. I got moved into a full time position teaching third grade!

I work in a dual-language school, but we do have one class per grade that is English only, in which I'm the third grade teacher. These kids basically stay together until middle school. They know how to push each other's buttons and they love to talk. Really love to talk. When a student comes up to you and says they're getting a headache too, you know you have a problem.

So much so, I had to make a noise level so that they wouldn't give me another headache. Knowing myself, I knew I would have to make it cutesy and also attract their attention. So it's not just a 1-4, but there are catchy titles too.

I hope you guys will find this helpful! I didn't put playground/outside noise, as there shouldn't be a reason my kids are that loud in the class!

**Note, due to my busy schedule, I will not be making any changes to the freebie, it comes as is, thanks!**

Math Groups on the Computer

Hey everyone!

Some exciting stuff has happened since I posted last month. I was offered a position until January at my favorite school! I am teaching 1st grade, 2/3, and 4/5 ESOL (English classes) and in a week or so, math intervention groups!

As of today, I'll be starting extended day math club and working with kids on the computer.  What programs will be using?

I'll mostly be using XtraMath and Khan Academy as my resources online. I was also told that we're most likely going to be following Marilyn Burns' style of teaching too, with her program Math Solutions.

I wrote a blog post about Common Core Math Resources over on my blog if you would like a list of more ideas.

Bulletin Board Design

Hey everyone!

I know some of you are back to school and some of you are headed there soon, so I wanted to talk to you about bulletin boards!

I must admit, for someone that doesn't have a classroom, I love doing bulletin boards! I always offer my assistance to my friends and they dislike bulletin boards. It's a win-win!

One of my favorite bulletin boards I've ever done was this one.

I loved finding a background to pop with a scrunchy border. All I did was cut strips of black butcher paper up and scrunched and stapled. My friend was away in Florida for a week and came back to this surprise. Even the kids loved it!

I also love making bulletin boards 3-D and interactive.

Kids can lift the flaps on the frogs, touch the eggs (beads hot glued on to bubble wrap), and more! Two of us put this up and it took over an hour. And the background was from last year, so she didn't have to have that repainted, but I did some touch ups.

I have some more bulletin board ideas here.

Hope these gave you some ideas!

Hello! New Kid In The Class

Hey everyone!

I feel like the new kid in the class, but a class that is super awesome and nice!

I'm Tanja! You may know me from my blog Journey of a Substitute Teacher.

Hmm, what to say about me. Currently a substitute teacher for grades K-5 and even sub for specialists like music, library (my fave!), and P.E.

I live in the beautiful (and wet) state of Oregon! Go Ducks!

Our Coast

Oh I guess I should post a pic of me before I go further, lol! That's me :)

I help teach 3 classes once a month at my friend's hardware store. Here's from last October.

If you know me, I can be a goofball (why am I putting this on the internet, I don't know!)

I love traveling and camping! (Mt. Hood in the background).

This is my furbaby, Checkers. Love her so much and her little checkered face!

I love cooking and baking. I'm eating healthier now, so I am always experimenting and testing out new recipes (I usually post on my IG account @teacherjourney).

Whew! Enough about me now! I'm so excited and happy to be here, I just had to whip up a new freebie, just for you guys!!!
