This is one of my favorite ways to <span style="color: blue;">practice and review vowels. </span>This is simple to prep for, which is always nice!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjewyprr9x4pqI4AVSPaLtCLpqBdBqe8eF2O3FxgOtBF6bHAS7FT-f4lyWCKS_pmdcZAJqpPotqPYxYvqiBkKVttCyjxZ6Cravh4ZJQLa3EhdgsHSU8yVq1DpyZYRjcQTfqniwKbE42w_23/s1600/Slide3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjewyprr9x4pqI4AVSPaLtCLpqBdBqe8eF2O3FxgOtBF6bHAS7FT-f4lyWCKS_pmdcZAJqpPotqPYxYvqiBkKVttCyjxZ6Cravh4ZJQLa3EhdgsHSU8yVq1DpyZYRjcQTfqniwKbE42w_23/s1600/Slide3.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here's a little video to show how it works:</div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixiYlEGSxIO2AEChEZpkqD5nztHa4UVClIh8P3JmZsoIoQ-cE8OU2Oye3UjcAR99rjOj1R7zz54Tkr2-h5aPp7rIA0na0KQPdBJYbuBMAxY_edYfKLOufKFUph_mwziPXb0rBU5RdbSSXX/s1600/IMG_5218.MOV" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixiYlEGSxIO2AEChEZpkqD5nztHa4UVClIh8P3JmZsoIoQ-cE8OU2Oye3UjcAR99rjOj1R7zz54Tkr2-h5aPp7rIA0na0KQPdBJYbuBMAxY_edYfKLOufKFUph_mwziPXb0rBU5RdbSSXX/s1600/IMG_5218.MOV" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I give each student a vowel on a math counter. They all have the same worksheet with the vowel missing. They read each word with the vowel they have. Then they switch to use another vowel. <span style="font-size: large;"><span style="color: blue;">Simple, quick, fun</span>. </span>It's great practice for them and a quick snapshot assessment for me. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You certainly do NOT have to buy anything to do this though! For one, you could also <span style="color: blue;">make your own</span> by just drawing it out on a piece of paper. Just leave a little circle for them to drop the vowel in. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also do quickies during guided reading. All you need is a sticky note.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2dXC_ulMMDvaLUzIDlCxBnt3nVaHYvmZBKQjEkqDpbVg1ViEjhuP0tGXXiU1Ez6VnKMCjVi6voZMzU8ouw8zQOKmNuYOkY_26sTUckcxwW-MgXbdbDpGpvVhGW9XLGo7Bb8Yng2a0kZ2S/s1600/Slide1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2dXC_ulMMDvaLUzIDlCxBnt3nVaHYvmZBKQjEkqDpbVg1ViEjhuP0tGXXiU1Ez6VnKMCjVi6voZMzU8ouw8zQOKmNuYOkY_26sTUckcxwW-MgXbdbDpGpvVhGW9XLGo7Bb8Yng2a0kZ2S/s1600/Slide1.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Put up some chart paper like this and use any ol' popsicle stick to fill in the vowels. In this picture we are working on a vowel pair. I have little popsicle sticks with all the vowels. Sometimes I'll have a student come up and read a word with three different vowel sticks. This is a great whole class lesson. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It's Angie from <a href="http://luckylittlelearners.com/">Lucky Little Learners</a> and I am coming off of an exhausting, yet super fun, day of school! Today was our 100th Day of School and I have to admit that there were so many moments throughout the day today that got me excited about the thought of blogging because I kept thinking, "Gosh, they are going to love this!" Going into today, I knew that I wanted to write a blog post because the 100th Day of School has always been a favorite of mine and I want to share with you a couple of the successful activities that we do. <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOWFTi-PRr9067hPzTn7YJJGSqbqTMOD44X5MxliOVZLr_V0BnWIGHWyvTI-vEOHqOK797jy9GhCrn4I9nQI7R55fHhAXQS0k5rUcCk8OTz1dzhe4XdtElLLOoynWcYQvnikXdYbpGiJ2d/s1600/IMG_2169.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOWFTi-PRr9067hPzTn7YJJGSqbqTMOD44X5MxliOVZLr_V0BnWIGHWyvTI-vEOHqOK797jy9GhCrn4I9nQI7R55fHhAXQS0k5rUcCk8OTz1dzhe4XdtElLLOoynWcYQvnikXdYbpGiJ2d/s1600/IMG_2169.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
When my students come into the classroom, our routine is always the same. They come in, lay out their BEE binder, read the morning message, sharpen their pencils, and begin their morning work. They knew that today was going to be special when a plastic baggie was on their desk and they were told that their morning work consisted of counting out 100 Legos. Let the crazy fun begin...yes, right away at 8:10!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf2vkuvxf9L-yCsbeptOScKbF6wMUT9s6NI_zgRdTRnp7BjLxz3JJwUEwba_7_JQ3d6K1rJwG0hhrd4yPO9O1dT5xtF4ZWwn60kTYfNYmfW2yHDdmQGF1_g6C16MjsBd8uXt64xnEXsrBq/s1600/Slide1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf2vkuvxf9L-yCsbeptOScKbF6wMUT9s6NI_zgRdTRnp7BjLxz3JJwUEwba_7_JQ3d6K1rJwG0hhrd4yPO9O1dT5xtF4ZWwn60kTYfNYmfW2yHDdmQGF1_g6C16MjsBd8uXt64xnEXsrBq/s1600/Slide1.png" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
Time out from the Legos...as my students started filling their plastic baggies, several of my students were intrigued by the 100 Adjectives display. They wanted to know what was going to be happening on this board so after we got settled in, I explained to my students that one of the many challenges that I had for them today was to come up with 100 Adjectives. When one of my students replied, "When can we start?" I knew we were in for a fun and busy day!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtgUF6i8wj9oOlWYrdB8iuG3B_WCwSp5PAU7x7Gcmou_1i9dwapaSZGq0iRFZIUI2ySIV9nxDc3ZpT87RZN1pUwbjMPsC7mawHG55lorteu5nh4zeGO5gL4PNjb6DdlQcLFmrx1t2VzHPg/s1600/Slide2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtgUF6i8wj9oOlWYrdB8iuG3B_WCwSp5PAU7x7Gcmou_1i9dwapaSZGq0iRFZIUI2ySIV9nxDc3ZpT87RZN1pUwbjMPsC7mawHG55lorteu5nh4zeGO5gL4PNjb6DdlQcLFmrx1t2VzHPg/s1600/Slide2.png" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
As you can see they jumped to this challenge. It was so fun to sit back and watch these guys work together. Communication was key as they helped each other spell words, check for words that may have been doubled up, and triple check to make sure that the words that were listed were adjectives and not nouns or verbs.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiab1Pbb9fdbHod8tCQ6M0vIY3LCqDimAXQBTq3H2FdeuuDntZJ8tKgdpLmsFxMYLDayG-7QyURF5HcKLNs70OKmjnTPQMiXLmucGi29XVd6KOTwIyio863VJ29LV-JnpCFkJ1iF-UyT6jC/s1600/Slide3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiab1Pbb9fdbHod8tCQ6M0vIY3LCqDimAXQBTq3H2FdeuuDntZJ8tKgdpLmsFxMYLDayG-7QyURF5HcKLNs70OKmjnTPQMiXLmucGi29XVd6KOTwIyio863VJ29LV-JnpCFkJ1iF-UyT6jC/s1600/Slide3.png" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
They conquered the task! Everything may not be "dictionary spelled" but that was not the focus of this activity. I think it looks great!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Now, back to the Legos...once each student had their bag of 100 Legos, I instructed them to create something with their Legos. I didn't care what it was but I did tell them that they had to use all 100 Legos and they could not trade any of their pieces for different sizes. As you can see above, I may have some Type A kiddos with the all red and all yellow Legos. Ha! Ha!<br />

This task ended up taking them a lot longer than I had anticipated. Their creativity kicked into high gear as they found this task to be a little more challenging than anticipated at the beginning. There was some frustration with creations tipping over so they worked together to come up with the solution that the base had to be bigger and that the creations couldn't be too tall. I loved watching their minds at work with this!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_UDTSLemEhaMLRibKaM5hDuXSD4eD3oTtpeM0CIswuXWWM-4W6H0RggqxHGpbx3akDUfMFhbQDETSP9VYQg477Lxw1ouj15KHHpfpwAglyirW1e-Itq3rwgk6OHu-FaTSXYsjtobVUlPB/s1600/Slide1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_UDTSLemEhaMLRibKaM5hDuXSD4eD3oTtpeM0CIswuXWWM-4W6H0RggqxHGpbx3akDUfMFhbQDETSP9VYQg477Lxw1ouj15KHHpfpwAglyirW1e-Itq3rwgk6OHu-FaTSXYsjtobVUlPB/s1600/Slide1.png" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
Once each student finished their Lego creation, they had to come to me to create a label. We displayed their creations around the classroom. One of my students said, "Mrs. Olson, it looks like a Lego museum in here!" Yes, I will definitely let these take over my classroom for the next week! Another student suggested that our principal and other classes come and take a tour...I just may have to arrange this to happen. I love when they are proud of themselves!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Once their creation and label were on display, I gave them a writing template and asked them to use adjectives to write "beefy sentences" that would describe what they made. You can get a copy of this Lego writing template <a href="http://mrsrojasteaches.blogspot.com/2011/07/100-legos.html">HERE</a>. They modeled their "2nd grade best handwriting" with hopes that Mr. Nagel would come in and read their sentences!<br />

I have included a few of their writing samples and Lego creations. They may not be perfect but I feel that it was an effective activity!<br />

Another favorite from today were these photos. We used the <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/agingbooth/id357467791?mt=8">Aging Booth</a> app to create these photos of ourselves as if we were 100 years old. I have never heard my kids laugh so hard when we went through everybody's picture on the document camera. (DISCLAIMER: I got permission to use these photos from each child's family.)<br />

I would like to end this post with our 100 Reasons Why We Love Our School bulletin board display. We made this last week for our Parent Teacher Conferences but it ties in so nicely for the 100th Day of School. I hope that you found a couple of ideas that you could use for your 100th Day of School or that you could pin to your 100th Day Pinterest board!<br />

Here's a little writing activity I like to do with my kiddos. They get to create a superhero scene & the write about it! They LOVE it!<br />
<br />
I glue two sets of googly eyes on each page of paper. Part of the fun & challenge is creating the scene around those googly eyes-- wherever they are on the paper! I tell my kiddos that they can create any scene & add their own characters....the only rule is one has to be a superhero. I was inspired by this picture I came across on Pinterest from House of Baby Piranha.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.houseofbabypiranha.com/2012/07/wiggly-eye-drawing-starter.html" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi84RDbbP_VaznUqT6DHBFYGKggQ4fqM2qCSjgIKAmcFd0LOS3J1cSD0dTFOgA2keE3lsqQeTy4Gik34LCfhpJ7MMtpmaj4JYYwZyrC0S1dtMirqbX_pZhmF8XhJKWfr3XCOXaklFGlfwc/s1600/create+write.JPG" height="311" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My sweeties LOVE drawing their characters! The beauty of this project is, as they're drawing the picture with the googly eyes, they're really planning their writing! Characters.....setting....even the details of the story begins to develop as they complete the drawing!</div>

<br />
It's been awhile since I've posted. We are officially 5 months in to parenthood and I'm just now finding time to do things for myself again. :) There are piles of laundry and a sink of dirty dishes right now, but I've been anxious to sit down and finish up this post.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://thirdgradebookworm.blogspot.com/2015/02/making-it-back-after-maternity-leave.html" target="_blank"><img alt="http://thirdgradebookworm.blogspot.com/2015/02/making-it-back-after-maternity-leave.html" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRmHzk_cwoN8CgOX9ES5hkSvLTLplpfSSFp7nviwLlrbRSctaXh11ariqI1qN6NaILzEpmgjlncdEKwFncLLF9Tets6tgtFfjWZKE8dYsCMcC3vx-5l7dUOBUJV9OSFTYigmKp49iOD5CI/s1600/Slide1.PNG" height="308" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The first few days back at work, I'm sure my co-workers thought I was nuts. Some sweet soul would ask me how I was doing or ask about my little man, and I was too busy trying not to cry to give them much of an answer. I even put my hand up several times and answered, "We're not talking about it!!" Ha!!<br />
<br />
Going back to work and finding a balance is hard. Leaving your sweet snuggly baby is even harder. If this is something you've been struggling with (or maybe it's in your future!) come on over and see if there's something that might help you. Click on any of the images in this post to take a peek!<br />

Hi everyone! It's Megan from Mrs. Wheeler's First Grade! Today I am here to share a few Valentine's Day freebies that I have available for you to download. I have made them over the past several years, but I know some of you may not have them. I can't believe that it's almost February! Do you have a party for Valentine's Day in your classroom? I usually do...it's the only "big" party that I have each year. For drinks, I like to give my kids a bottle of water and include these editable tags with a flavor pack. The kids think it's so cool to make their own water in class! Hahaha! <br />

On Valentine's Day before we have our party, we usually spend the day doing "Valentinish" things, such as this sight word game. To prep it, just write or print some sight words onto strips of paper. Fold them up and place in little heart boxes. Be sure to number the boxes. Print and copy the recording sheet and have the kids walk around {with music playing, of course!} and write the words. My freebie includes the Fry's First 100 sight words and a recording sheet. You can select which words you want to put in the boxes. I got my boxes at Dollar Tree many years ago, but I have seen them around town at various stores {Hobby Lobby, Target, Etc...}.</div>

They've gotten a little too loose with the rules...but it happens because we're over halfway through the year.<br />
<br />
To curb these actions I've put together a simple set of classroom rules for my iPads (I know some of you use other devices). You can grab a free set for yourself in <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/iPad-and-Mobile-Device-Classroom-Rules-A-Poster-Set-1667022">my TPT store</a>.<br />

Hi everyone! Today I want to share with you a simple idea that is low-prep but loads of fun. I've used pipe cleaners to practice sight words, but this year I started using them in a few other ways. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With my kinders, we use pipe cleaners and letter beads to practice our letters and sounds. I put on letters they know and a letter(s) they are working on. They put the beads on, making the sound or saying the letter name as they do. When they are all on, they practice the letters a few more times by moving the beads. They can mix up the order by taking the beads off and on again. It's like a fluency strip that moves! Ha! You can get letter beads on Amazon (tons of choices here) or at a craft store, like Joannes or Michaels. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Remember, we want our students to have <b>automaticity</b> with their letter sounds. This activity is great for all kinders, even if they know all of their sounds. This would be a great warmup to your Guided Reading group. Give each student a pipe cleaner with several letters and have them make the sounds as they move the beads. Then they could switch with a buddy and do it again. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoWdCM_6ZkZWkgHlQTpFBumdOcNaEO2tPwus1_ugKXKzGySI3nxMCOMci8ZdRnFPkB_ADHO9WaDrlYoP4I81lNywTXRqeoWkDoAJwxWyuhJ0y_tfzE9cY2XwKmROxpbqBJORu8xw3p7XTm/s1600/Slide1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoWdCM_6ZkZWkgHlQTpFBumdOcNaEO2tPwus1_ugKXKzGySI3nxMCOMci8ZdRnFPkB_ADHO9WaDrlYoP4I81lNywTXRqeoWkDoAJwxWyuhJ0y_tfzE9cY2XwKmROxpbqBJORu8xw3p7XTm/s1600/Slide1.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can also use them when your students are just starting to sound out words. I start with just two beads: a vowel and a consonant. I stretch the vowel sound as I move it toward the consonant. "/aaaaaaaaa/ /t/ Say the consonant sound when the vowel touches it. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHN3sfPkEOAEGzxp8r-hrYj3BeKXYc0HUjSeeUWgn11N0SPAlXEUNwE9ptplfrPZvhnBlgx8ci7uqKcvXGnrMhFVMCSCCaf-YAda5srTttFh772k3mjA7CLejJoHqr8OAb4RucbUhK2h58/s1600/Slide2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHN3sfPkEOAEGzxp8r-hrYj3BeKXYc0HUjSeeUWgn11N0SPAlXEUNwE9ptplfrPZvhnBlgx8ci7uqKcvXGnrMhFVMCSCCaf-YAda5srTttFh772k3mjA7CLejJoHqr8OAb4RucbUhK2h58/s1600/Slide2.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
When your kids are ready, add another consonant to make CVC words. Start with just one word family and change up the initial consonant.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeWK-9qnqCZhxm6tYM-zlwHV02aRo-YR2BV1Yp4AlqQ-iDNrvZRUNgixa2EdiVNW4BZgLklPOJceK7-jbojnwtwdMvgd7VEfPHtS80Opbltn88BMBcVW56qN9UkiFlrR_RQQVV8tL3D5Eo/s1600/Slide3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeWK-9qnqCZhxm6tYM-zlwHV02aRo-YR2BV1Yp4AlqQ-iDNrvZRUNgixa2EdiVNW4BZgLklPOJceK7-jbojnwtwdMvgd7VEfPHtS80Opbltn88BMBcVW56qN9UkiFlrR_RQQVV8tL3D5Eo/s1600/Slide3.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Let's back it up a bit! You don't even have to use letters. This is a great way to practice phonemic awareness. Put different color beads on the pipe cleaner. Start with two, then add on the third when your students can proficiently blend two sounds. I love this because your students don't have to know a stinkin' letter to do this activity but it is SO valuable. They need to develop their phonemic awareness! To do this, you would say a word with two or three sounds: "at" and your students will move the beads as they say the sounds, "/a/ /t/". You can do it the other way, where you point to the beads and say /a/ /t/ and they copy you then blend the sounds to guess the word.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Do you use pipe cleaners? Tell me how you use them! It can be for anything- arts and crafts too. I have an overload of pipe cleaners and I'm itching to use them! :) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I might be posting this later than usual, but I'm posting!<br />
<br />
I have a timeline in my class that is super simple and basic!<br />
<br />
The only things I am using is a sentence strip (cut up), a sharpie to write the month, and then a paper from a kid for whatever subject(s) I want to "remember".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhARAwqws11KXG9g4mGHUtOZRe4OzDABUSElMQVB66HhLAUdqRGx003BatoliyRwN9G7ETlLAnfRcAbh555zdJh4AqqXFLMkKtwhgmZ53m-H7TgamYx9oQq1WmCkPAUwDajjdHQBqpebI0/s1600/Slide2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhARAwqws11KXG9g4mGHUtOZRe4OzDABUSElMQVB66HhLAUdqRGx003BatoliyRwN9G7ETlLAnfRcAbh555zdJh4AqqXFLMkKtwhgmZ53m-H7TgamYx9oQq1WmCkPAUwDajjdHQBqpebI0/s1600/Slide2.PNG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Super simple and easy! And my kids love referring back to what we studied in each month.<br />
<br />
A few more pictures are up over on my <a href="http://www.journeyofasubstituteteacher.com/2015/01/bright-idea-timeline-in-class.html">blog </a>if you want to see more!<br />

<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Yesterday we observed Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday and classrooms are buzzing this week with </span><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">"I Have A Dream" sentiments. I absolutely love having conversations with my little first graders about diversity and how we can change the world...one small step at a time.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">I most definitely want to keep the momentum going this month with a strong focus on fairness, equality, and courage so I created a <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Ruby-Bridges-A-Non-Fiction-Close-Reading-Resource-1658729">new unit</a> on another heartfelt hero that our kids can definitely appreciate!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">I grew up with <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Ruby-Bridges-A-Non-Fiction-Close-Reading-Resource-1658729">Ruby Bridges</a> as my role model.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">I still get butterflies when I hear her name mentioned in conversations. Meeting her in person is on my bucket list.</span></div>

Hey guys! It's Angie from <a href="http://luckylittlelearners.blogspot.com/">Lucky Little Learners</a>
and I'm back to bring you some Parent-Teacher Conference MUST HAVES. I
love parent-teacher conferences ONCE I AM READY FOR THEM! It's such a
great time to connect with my families face to face! All of my
students' data and projects go into a folder or 9x12 piece of
construction paper folded in half. On the outside of this portfolio I
like to attach a conference folder cover sheet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Conference-Folder-FREEBIE-1655211"><img alt="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Conference-Folder-FREEBIE-1655211" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJQo2PMHIZsmha8UBsqo5nZwCT3v_ODwwXuGG-CbFW07q6MxyZ5leGEw3D-6N6YisMCMztMPTIa-ZAbY9uFGOPxRIV8ORHskinLmimKVeiGu5mHnLCUq6tLruTCqLt1utwDdAdvwyeVLtr/s1600/Slide1.png" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
I decided that since I made them for my classroom, I should make a set
to work for YOUR classroom! Introducing my Conference Folder FREEBIE...<br />

Current Events Lexiled and all!! Hi everyone!!! Nicole here from All Things Apple to share an A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. website today!!! A good friend of mine shared this site with me this week, and I am seriously obsessed with it!! With the need for more nonfiction texts and practice, this website is quite frankly a gem!!<br />
<br />
Welcome to Newsela!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.newsela.com/"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEittzrq8RppvqIHFBBv1EIhhWYaNnp4ul4ILr0VT6bgVRR6dHObTNCVGVwrK1F4gSiFizcrtcjLbhe5sRp3A1XAE0sheW-OMPSa-xLPYFuY8MYTxohQtkqL_DZs177SDYmDUsecCM5RV4A/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-01-16+at+8.27.15+PM.png" height="355" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Ok, so you may be asking, what's so great about this website? Well, let me answer that for you!<br />
1. The articles are all on current events. You receive a daily email with new current events articles as well. You can read them online OR print them out in a very nice layout!!! So VERSATILE!!!<br />
2. Each article has up to 4 different Lexile Levels to choose from for students!!! OH MY WORD!! Awesome!!! DIFFERENTIATION!! Once you set up your class, it will automatically select the grade level appropriate Lexile Level for the article chosen. However, you can still pick a different level if necessary. <span style="background-color: yellow;">So far, the lowest Lexile Level I have come across was in the 300s.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQojVhlfgCheNXOv0sX6DNSIMcETUHJIQG4hH6loIFbCcFob1_mjhdXlBtUlM715VymgwtZ4eVoApRyiF5An-qFPqgrvbX43xSZd7W7JFKZOaO7lINowVYMAygnPUKVizrYgrHFp07qJA/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-01-16+at+9.09.29+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQojVhlfgCheNXOv0sX6DNSIMcETUHJIQG4hH6loIFbCcFob1_mjhdXlBtUlM715VymgwtZ4eVoApRyiF5An-qFPqgrvbX43xSZd7W7JFKZOaO7lINowVYMAygnPUKVizrYgrHFp07qJA/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-01-16+at+9.09.29+PM.png" height="464" width="640" /></a></div>
3. After you've set up your class, you can assign specific articles. You can even hide articles you don't want them to read. Many of the articles have quizzes along with them too. You are able to track everything as well!<br />
4. You can have your students sign up with the classroom code, and this allows them to go to the Binder to read the assigned articles.<br />
5. ANNOTATION!!! You and your students can annotate text by simply highlighting sections with your cursor and clicking on a highlighter color. You can even write notes with the annotation!!! AND the teacher can respond to the comments!!! WOW, right?!?<br />

</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
If you're like me, then you sometimes struggle with differentiating assessments for you students. It takes a lot of time an effort to make/find different assessments for different levels of kids over one specific topic. Too time consuming but so worth it... Here's a little strategy you could use that would help you fix both problem! It's called "How High Can You Climb?" It's a 'ladder' strategy that allows students to work on differentiated levels of problems. Here's how it works!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<ul>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisyLbXpV4Zy00LhoIvO5L12QeeYAygWKu7WgIgJHFoX7HNTvLOrQTbEwKYKII_Bykp3JTkulYdqCinsUsH1_eF6LN2XippHYamBS3G_03fpVjN6Q1GrtA2oDTHLROqsrVyGEduLREmP6I/s1600/Slide1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisyLbXpV4Zy00LhoIvO5L12QeeYAygWKu7WgIgJHFoX7HNTvLOrQTbEwKYKII_Bykp3JTkulYdqCinsUsH1_eF6LN2XippHYamBS3G_03fpVjN6Q1GrtA2oDTHLROqsrVyGEduLREmP6I/s1600/Slide1.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a>
<li>A teacher creates a ladder of about 5-6 problems.</li>
<li>The problems go from easy on the bottom of the ladder and get harder and harder as they go up the ladder.</li>
<li>Students begin working at the bottom and see how high they can climb without getting frustrated. This allows the high students to work as high up as they can and then the lower students can work until they feel like they need help. </li>
</ul>
<div>
This is SUCH an eye opening strategy. It really helps show those 'frustration' points with all levels of kids and shows where they're making their mistakes. It helps to them pinpoint where I (teacher) need to go next on my lesson not just as a class, but for each level. It also gives all students a chance to try out those harder problems without feeling obligated. And they are quick to make!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here is an example of a ladder for elapsed time (3rd grade).</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.dropbox.com/s/e5soeqs3v095osu/ladder%20templates.pdf?dl=0"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-OVsX6egRTgTlmkSwgTPGWbHR9ZXjdLZyiJN1W9KF3j20TuUHy4HHemzcup4gn_FHObqCdrVB7qiEkL7iAu2DXFgg6ynw_K61LZtyRRtPOwysm5C-VWXgsmn6OCJ6qKxQ6wwzmx8E5eA/s1600/ladder+templates.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As you can see the easier problem is on the bottom and the higher up you go the harder the problems get. I always allow the back of the paper for work space (or side if I shrink the ladder to 1/2 page size, which I normally do!). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The students LOVE the ladders. They like seeing how high they can go and they don't feel pressured to always to go the top. This strategy can be used for ANY grade and ANY topic area! I've made a blank template for you as well. You can click both pictures to download them for FREE! You can also make your own template to use with the same idea of course! I'm planning on creating a line of TPT products that incorporate this strategy in the very near future ;) Keep an eye out! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.dropbox.com/s/e5soeqs3v095osu/ladder%20templates.pdf?dl=0"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglfq8puxBkYpR0tl9uoD7qd5F0hiI86K6uZpnf-Pf_tDlgaITo6tuAE0wYGZdqjwkoZGIPZR_U07xRbvSDziG4nOez7Oj6ROaWPsePtm6uclG-duQk4JrpVnGKTk6s8_nQWsEvdjmBQmk/s1600/ladder+templates+1.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'd LOVE to hear what you think about this strategy! How are you going to implement it into your classroom? Do you think it will help you or your kids in any way? Please leave a comment!</div>

I think they're just wonderful; the depth and complexity, the choose-your-own-adventure feel, the open-ended choices. Projects are simply a great way for students to show of their learning. Even our masters' programs are dripping with projects and presentations.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheLUh1IBhNn59If6gkQq535XYpXONdpqHBZ7gFAYT5oYStsN9XAqET1Jtw_VbDzSTFFA9-QZl7GQ5BIKXqAb2cf2wOu_aYgldJWBry9sjj6Hpq5YbLa52SOnjJlLkVNefpaJeYPE_rg1I/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-01-11+at+1.08.24+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheLUh1IBhNn59If6gkQq535XYpXONdpqHBZ7gFAYT5oYStsN9XAqET1Jtw_VbDzSTFFA9-QZl7GQ5BIKXqAb2cf2wOu_aYgldJWBry9sjj6Hpq5YbLa52SOnjJlLkVNefpaJeYPE_rg1I/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-01-11+at+1.08.24+PM.png" height="320" width="320" /></a><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
That's why I've started creating mini-project based learning activities that are filled with math, ELA, social studies, and technology aspects. These PBL activities allow students to be creative and imaginative (most important factor to me), but also combine multiple areas of academics to complete a project. My most recent PBL is <b><a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Build-A-Ski-Resort-A-Project-Based-Learning-Activity-for-Math-ELA-and-More-1628086">Build A Ski Resort</a></b>, seen below.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja4ySmq-tynzr1_nR5v9ROWDpIiIdY6IARloTHh42zspba97KDcewkz8eQG5Bvrq6boNaxS1ax6975ejB5Ra-UTLs1d9r6e5yNq1mvVAaJG59V4frz2jKQA4BT73vFjPdIfPhfDtXE6c0/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-01-11+at+12.57.41+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja4ySmq-tynzr1_nR5v9ROWDpIiIdY6IARloTHh42zspba97KDcewkz8eQG5Bvrq6boNaxS1ax6975ejB5Ra-UTLs1d9r6e5yNq1mvVAaJG59V4frz2jKQA4BT73vFjPdIfPhfDtXE6c0/s1600/Screen+Shot+2015-01-11+at+12.57.41+PM.png" height="422" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My favorite aspects of these PBL activities is the chance to individualize the learning for students/classrooms. Each page can stand alone, or you can bring in outside resources to enhance the learning potential (or your teaching potential). Since this focuses on skiing and ski resorts you can answer essential questions with movies from you tube.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>What is a ski Resort?</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/CWXs8uvY_fA" width="560"></iframe>
<br />
<br />
<b>What are Logos and why are they important?</b><br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/89xrXPY6prQ" width="560"></iframe>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>THIS ISN'T JUST ABOUT WHAT I CREATED...</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anytime we, as teachers, are assigning projects or activities we need to stoke the flames of students' creativity showing them the endless possibilities. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Technology integration and access play a crucial role, not so they (students) can just use it--but they can see how others have used it or to gain a little background knowledge. Hands on projects are the best too, so please don't assume I'm yelling, "<i>All aboard the technology bus!</i>" There are times and places for each.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<b>BUT LETTING GO IS TOUGH...</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is twofold. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. You must give up some of the control and put the learning in your students' hands.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. You have to allow the students to struggle. I know, this one is tough--but it is important. Allow them to collaborate with other students before they run to you. Remind them it might hurt a little bit, then tell them to collaborate with more students (again). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you've never taken the plunge with some project based learning activities I suggest finding one that is right for you and give it a try. Also, make sure the project time happens in class (so you're a part of it). If you think a ski resort is right for you--well then, have a blast.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Build-A-Ski-Resort-A-Project-Based-Learning-Activity-for-Math-ELA-and-More-1628086">BUILD A SKI RESORT</a></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The topic would have redefined teaching and caused mass chaos from the fervor and cheer resonating from teachers all around the globe. It was gonna be that good. I'm serious.<br />
<br />
Then I realized how close we are to winter break and realized no one really cares. <br />
<br />
Instead, here are a few holiday/winter/Christmas videos you might want to watch with your students. I'd suggest checking them out for yourself, but you don't have to take my word for it.<br />
<br />
<b>A Muppet Family Christmas</b><br />
This is broken into four parts on Youtube. It's a crossover of Muppets, Sesame Street, and Fraggle Rock. This is phenomenal. Wacka, wacka, wacka!<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/UvuRo2k8rl4" width="420"></iframe>
<br />
<br />
<b>Star Wars Christmas Special (1978ish)</b><br />
This might be the worst thing ever created. It is not good, but some of your Star Wars loving kids might be interested in seeing wookies celebrate Christmas. Or not.<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/6c3B18gAJyc" width="420"></iframe>
<br />
<br />
<b>ALF Christmas Special</b><br />
This is bad. I was a kid--so it is a bit nostalgic for me. Don't judge me.<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/KeGxL0auiP8" width="420"></iframe>
<br />
<br />
<b>California Raisins Christmas Special</b><br />
I love claymation and this hits some high notes. <br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Q9qfSpwLsf8" width="420"></iframe>
<br />
<br />
<b>Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas.</b><br />
More Muppet-type fun. Check it out.<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/zeG499fHctw" width="420"></iframe>
<br />
<br />
Have a great week.<br />

When I made them, I originally was going to use them as flash cards to "warm up" at the beginning of our group time. Then I started going and we ended up using these for the entire time! Here is what we ended up doing with these gingerbread men:<br />
<br />
First, we used them as flash cards. Students had them in a pile and went through and reviewed their letter names.<br />

<span style="text-align: start;">Next, we sorted the cards by upper and lower case. Then they matched the upper and lower case together. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">After that we reviewed the letter sounds using only the lowercase letter cards.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">We had the gingerbread vowel run to a consonant to practice blending words. Most of the words were nonsense words, but the point was to practice blending sounds together. This group of kids isn't ready to blend three sounds yet, so we focusing on two sounds. It was a lot of fun!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We practiced segmenting sounds. They were able to segment three letter words with guidance. I said the word, then we all segmented the sounds together a couple of times. Then they tried to pull down the correct letters to make that word.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqpQEcgi60-awEYupo1axSQXj2tLV99RVypFzPa13EITY9tfa9tVlAKkN5ZJiAbg7XtLeW-j0Xp9KPt17MZEc_M8dAcIUaOUtayXCQSMAksFLnMsk0NmJyRbHg9ToA5IzmIT0LxeDV6JI4/s1600/Slide5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqpQEcgi60-awEYupo1axSQXj2tLV99RVypFzPa13EITY9tfa9tVlAKkN5ZJiAbg7XtLeW-j0Xp9KPt17MZEc_M8dAcIUaOUtayXCQSMAksFLnMsk0NmJyRbHg9ToA5IzmIT0LxeDV6JI4/s1600/Slide5.jpg" height="308" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last, we worked on manipulating sounds They had lots of guidance but I really saw improvement by the end. I would repeat the word and "touch and say" each sound. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For example, I would say, <i>map</i>, <i>/m/ /a/ /p/ </i>as I touched each sound. Then I would say a new word, like <i>mip, /m/ /i/ /p/</i>. I would touch the cards again to help them see which sound changed. A few kids were able to touch and say the cards on their own to determine which sound changed.</div>

He's super cuddly and super codependent (older brother Gavin has always been extremely independent so a baby that wants to be held all the time...new to me!), so I'm glad I'll be off work until February to get extra cuddles in. <br />
Creative writing--it's one of the few times where kids (and us adults) have free reign to write pretty much whatever we want. BUT I'm pretty sure we've preconditioned so many kids to write like robots that when given opportunities to free-write they don't know what to do. How many times have you heard a student say, "I don't know what to write about."<br />
<br />
This goes for my own daughter and on a couple of lazy days during Thanksgiving break we tried to break the norm of creative writing by incorporating unknown QR code elements. My thinking revolved around the idea that my own kids just need little bumps of engagement to get going and adding in the technology/QR code element is just the ticket. <br />
<br />
Then I went to my quality control (that's my daughter) and asked her what she thought of the idea. I could see her wheels spinning and she started telling me all kinds of ideas that should be included.<br />
<br />
I created a die with codes for characters, setting, and a problem. Then she (my second grader) had to write a story based around these ideas, but first she had to write out her rolls/scans on a graphic organizer.<br />
<br />
Below is what she rolled and scanned:<br />
<b>Character</b>: Frosty the Snowman<br />
<b>Setting</b>: The Enchanted Forest<br />
<b>Problem</b>: There was not more hot chocolate.<br />
<br />
This was the final story I got from her:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1Sekmetf_gYw4ZjvYYj0yDc0OWSHdLv1uZAS57YZla4F9IQeu4QBbVwVPKsvv81JLLcEHOV8-4rTuWdE8Kw-5kbo5ThF0NGYpc4lqTf5H-lQ7jQ8Evz8GO7hXgy1yyQYAaE2R5V5S0Sc/s1600/Photo+Nov+25,+6+26+36+PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1Sekmetf_gYw4ZjvYYj0yDc0OWSHdLv1uZAS57YZla4F9IQeu4QBbVwVPKsvv81JLLcEHOV8-4rTuWdE8Kw-5kbo5ThF0NGYpc4lqTf5H-lQ7jQ8Evz8GO7hXgy1yyQYAaE2R5V5S0Sc/s1600/Photo+Nov+25,+6+26+36+PM.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
This was written during a break. I didn't even bribe her with a new set of LEGOS. I was even able to get my littlest kindergartener to do it to. For a little differentiation I had her draw a picture of the three items she scanned. She plowed through multiple stacks of paper using that method.<br />
<br />
I love seeing this and watching my child grow as a writer. It's a pretty good measuring stick. I'm excited to use this in class and see what all my other students come up too.<br />
<br />
<b>The RULE of ENGAGEMENT</b><br />
Engagement is the absolute key for hooking my kids and students. I think it would be a little preposterous to imagine that all kids come in ready to learn like one of Pavlov's dogs. It doesn't work like that. It never works like that. It doesn't even work like that as an adult. We want to be engaged and sometimes our imagination can't get the jump start it needs without a jumping-off point. Sometimes engagement takes a little piece of technology or a idea-nugget from the teacher, either way works and either way is successful. <br />
<br />
<i><b>How do you engage your students for creative writing activities?</b></i><br />
