Sammons. Honestly- I had never thought of applying those reading strategies to math. But it's brilliant, isn't it? I mean-- duh! Of course, you've got to
- Make connections
- Visualize
- Question
- Infer
- Determine Importance
- Fix Up & Monitor
- Synthesize
When you synthesize, you combine
- prior knowledge
- information from your experiences
- information gained from new experiences
to create a new understanding.
JUST like when you make lemonade!! You combine
- lemons
- sugar
- water
to create a new food!

We work on making inferences (...synthesizing, same thing!) a WHOLE BUNCH in 3rd grade. This would be a great lesson to really make the concept stick!
