Reading Genre Cards- Hello and a Freebie!

Hello from Thinking of Teaching! My name is Beth and I am the blogger behind Thinking of Teaching.

Thinking of Teaching

I have taught every grade from Grade 3 to Grade 8, but the majority of my experience is in the upper grades (7 & 8). I taught Grade 3 for the first time this year, LOVED it and can't wait to do it all again....except that I am having a baby this fall, my second, and won't be returning to the classroom for a full year.

To keep me busy in the meantime I have a 2 year-old daughter and we just moved houses (yes, while pregnant and believe it or not ON the last day of school- Crazy? I know).

I am super excited to be a part of this collaborative teaching blog organized by the amazing Brenda from Primary Inspired.  To welcome you all to our new blog I have a simple little freebie to offer you, Genre Reading Cards.

After reading The Book Whisperer (and leading a book study) reading genres became a huge focus in my literacy program. I organize my bookshelves by genre, my students choose their books according to genre, we do the 40 Book Challenge each year and numerous other activities. To get my students started on learning about the genres I created these cards to help them understand what the genres are all about. I hope you find them useful too.

And, while you're at it...you can grab this freebie too!

  10. What a great freebie! Thanks so much! It will be great with my first grade kiddos as we read our program stories and talk about what type of stories they are. Also I see small group work concentrating on genres. :)

    1. I'm glad that you will be able to use them. I'd be interested to see how they are used in a grade 1 class.
